This article popped in to my inbox this morning.

Hotel marketing article

Now I accept this is an excerpt. I note that the full version is available to the rest of us for about $1,000, but I really can't accept that travel agent websites outperformed hotel websites in terms of sales conversion, simply because hoteliers put their prices up.
Why not?

Because of that little thing called rate parity.

All the OTA websites insist upon rate parity. It is the ONLY sales proposition they use. eg "you won't find it cheaper".

But rate parity works two ways. It also means that hotels must have been selling at the same prices as the OTA websites. So that brings me back to the attention grabber in the article and leads me to ask,

"If rate parity is in place, how can you suggest that hotels are losing out on sales because their prices were higher than on OTA wbsites?"

It makes NO sense!

I know a lot of hoteliers. Only some of them are stupid enough to sell at lower prices on OTA websites than on their own.

Yet again, the industry tries to reduce things to Price alone and yet again we all know IT"S NOT ALL ABOUT THE PRICE!!

So come on then, what else have OTA websites been doing that hotel websites haven't in order to solicit more bookings?
